Approach Maslenitsa is a conceptual cookbook that celebrates Russian traditions in an unconventional way. Readers will get to know the way Russians would prepare their pancakes in a way to quench their cravings before upcoming fasting. The cookbook is divided into three chapters portraying the season change with the recipes according to that season.
Pancake Week
Maslenitsa or Pancake Week is one of the most joyful celebrations in Russian culture. In the old days Maslenitsa was about remembrance of the dead. So burning of the figure of Maslenitsa means her funeral, and blini or pancakes were the main course, round, yellow, hot as the sun, thin cakes. The celebration combines the end of the winter holiday rituals and the opening of new spring festivals and ceremonies, which were to promote a rich harvest. In the everyday life these recipes can be used for late night craving, feast before going on a diet or a treat for a cheat day.
